Lexson

Lexson: My style is in the minimalist realm. It's nature meets carefree black boy.

TorontoVerve: What's the best advice that you've been given?

Lexson: My uncle in Saint Vincent told me that I can always achieve whatever goal I set out to do as long as I have the right attitude. I'm a model in Toronto and my success has a lot to do with believing in myself and remembering my uncle's words.

Tenzin

I like humour and meaning in my style. I'm wearing something Asian and vintagy today. Tomorrow I'll wear something super gothic and maybe the next day I'll wear some Harajuku. I"m always doing different things to keep it fun.

Jessica

Jessica: A lot of what I'm wearing is from thrift stores, sales or hand me downs. I just kinda put them all together. I like mashing things together that normally wouldn't be mashed together.

TorontoVerve: What's the best advice that you've received?

Jessica: To live in the moment, be present and appreciative of living.

I captured Jessica's street style 5 years ago near Kensington Market.

Sierra

For my whole life, I've been drawn to a very unique and specific pallette of colours. I'm a very positive person so I wear positive colours. As you grow up it's really beautiful to understand yourself and to be able to express it visually with your appearance. I encourage people to really understand who they are and know what makes them happy on the outside; which will also make them happy on the inside.

Rebecca

Audrey Hepburn has always been a great style icon for me. Her elegance, her grace, her class and her beauty have been inspirational. I've always looked up to her my entire life.

Kamilah

Kamilah: My mom influenced my style. I used to always steal all her wardrobe from the 70's and 80's. Those eras were fearless and unapologetic. I'm a disco singer so it only makes sense to me. Everything I have is thrifted.

TorontoVerve: What's the best advice that you've received?

Kamilah: "This shall pass." Whenever I'm in a s#@t situation, I remember it's going to pass. It's not forever.

Thomas

I've learned from my partner to always have a clean crisp haircut and wear tight clothing in all the right places. That's what led to me getting married today.

Liza

Liza: My style is classic/conservative with a little kick.

TorontoVerve: What's the best advice that you've received?

Liza: It's so cliché, but I think that the 'never settle' thing is really applicable for me -- especially right now in my person life. Onward and upward.

"The best advice I've ever received is, "Do what you want to f#%king do." It took me years to do what I f#%king want to do and now here I am downtown, pursuing my dream in real estate and I'm meeting a lot of amazing people."

Keila

My style is glam-rocker chic. Lady Gaga inspires me. She's like a chameleon. One day she looks like one thing, the other day she looks like the next. I'm the same way. You can't typecast me. People tell me, "Less is more." I tell them, "More is more."

Petra, Rosie & Pastel Supernova

Petra: My style is urban rock. I inspire myself.

Instagram: @PetraLLC
Rosie: My style can be described as "Trash Barbie".

TorontoVerve: Who inspires you?

Rosie: Refer to the answer of your first question.

Instagram: @SugarTburlesque

Pastel Supernova: My style is urban pin-up. My mom inspires me. Most of the stuff I have either looks like the stuff that she used to have or is something she used to own. Her style is ultra-feminine.

Instagram: @PastelSupernova

The ladies are part of the Love Letters Cabaret and they'll be performing their burlesque show, Knockout, at Lula Lounge this Thursday, June 22nd.

Jasper

Jasper: My style is practical, and just because something is practical, it doesn't mean that it can't look good. All my suits are custom made and I choose them based on what feels current. Nature inspires my fashion. You look at the seasons and the changes in colour. That influences the colour and fabric I wear.

TorontoVerve: What's the best advice you've received?

Jasper: Everything has a time and place. That helps me be patient.

Odessa

Odessa: I really like mixing patterns, prints and textures. I have fun with my style. I think people smile when they see me. Rockstars from the sixties, like Jimi Hendrix, inspire me -- like Jimi Hendrix. He had a casual elegance. He wasn't afraid to rip a curtain down and make a blazer with it. He had a special eye for finding beautiful things.

TorontoVerve: What's the best advice you've received in life?

Odessa: My mom said, "Be true to yourself." If you don't fit in with other people, that's OK. That's given me the courage to take risks with colour. I work in the fashion industry so I'm often standing against a sea of people dressed in black. I encourage people to go with their instincts and be free to express themselves.

Becky

Becky: My mom is at a stage in her life where she just doesn't give a shit about what other people think anymore. It's hard, but try to do the same so I can comfortably be my weird and awkward self around people.
