Allix: My style is inspired by my ancestry and ancient cultures. I like to wear a lot of handcrafted jewellery from West Africa -- pieces that have a story.

TorontoVerve: What's the best advice that you've received?

Allix: It's OK to counter public opinion because often public opinion isn't based on truth. For instance we hear that we should respect all elders, but there should be an understanding that not all elders should be respected. Just because someone is older than you doesn't mean that they merit respect. There's the spirit of the law and there's the letter of the law. We should always pay attention to the spirit of the law.
